Berry farms in Whatcom County

Here’s a list of Whatcom County berry farms in 2011.

Make sure you call ahead to see if berries are ready before venturing out to pick.

AAA Raspberries U-Pick

Address and directions: 827 W. Pole Road, Ferndale; two miles west of Guide Meridian, .6 mile east of Northwest Road

Open: First week of July. Season lasts about 30 days. h Hours: Dawn to dusk, seven days a week.

Special note: No pesticides used. Some farm-picked crop.

Alm Hill Gardens

Open: U-Pick on Tuesdays and Saturdays, late June-September, by appointment only.

Special note: WSDA-certified organic u-pick raspberries, blueberries and blackberries.

Barbie’s Berries

Address: 7655 Melody Lane, Willeys Lake Road, Ferndale

Open: Tentative start date for u—pick strawberries, June 15-20; Raspberries will be available early July, with blackberries and blueberries to follow.

Special note: Five stand locations: Shell Station at Meridian Street and Kellogg Road; Raspberry Ridge on Hannegan; Fairway Center in Lynden.

Bellingham Country Gardens, U-Pick and Farm Stand

Address: 2838 Kelly Road, Bellingham; .5 mile west of Mount Baker Highway at Sand Road

Bjornstad Farms

Boxx Berry Farm

Address: 6211 Northwest Road, Ferndale; 2 miles north of the Smith Road soccer fields

Open: Approximately June 1-Oct. 31.

Hours: Retail market and u-pick is open 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Mondays-Saturdays; 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Sundays.

Special note: Retail market sells strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, blackberries, other produce from Eastern Washington; specialty products including jams, syrups, marinades, honey and frozen berries. U-pick strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, flowers and pumpkins.

Cross Line Farm

Address: 5990 Elder Road, Ferndale

Open: Mid-June-August.

Hours: 9 a.m.-6 p.m. daily, closed Tuesdays.

Special note: Strawberries (farm-pick), raspberries (farm-pick/u-pick) and farm stand, no-spray crops.

Eastview Blueberry Farm

Address: 4983 Ferndale Road, Ferndale; I-5 to Slater Road, exit 260, 2 miles west on Slater Road, turn right on Ferndale Road, drive .25 mile, entrance on left

Generations Blueberry Farm

Address: 2298 Stickney Island Road, Everson; from Guide Meridian, head east on Pole Road, left onto West Main Street, which becomes Park Drive, and Park Drive becomes Stickney Island Road; farm located on the corner

Hours: 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Mondays-Fridays; 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Saturdays.

Special note: U-pick or farm-pick. Call ahead for large orders. No pesticides are used on any of the berries.

Hannah Blueberries U-pick

Address: 7892 Enterprise Road, Ferndale, between Willey Lake Road and Birch Bay-Lynden Road

Special note: U-pick, $1 a pound; Call for we-pick. The berries are not sprayed.

Haugen’s Raspberries

Open: Last week of June for about 6 weeks.

Hours: 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Mondays-Saturdays.

Special note: Meeker Raspberries and Duke Blueberries. U-pick and farm-pick at farm stand.

Hauck’s Orchard and Produce

Address: 1920 Harksell Road, Ferndale; exit 266, east to Enterprise Road, turn left, go about 1 mile. Harksell goes to the left about half way around the sharp right turn to the second property on the right.

Open: Pie cherries and sweet cherries starting about the last week of June.

Hours: 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturdays, noon-4 p.m. Sundays.

Special note: Certified Naturally Grown orchard; uses only organic practices. U-pick $4 per pound.

Hopewell Farm

Address: 3072 Massey Road, Everson; just out of Everson off Highway 9/Nooksack Road

Open: Farm stand open July-November with blueberries, raspberries, carrots, corn, cucumbers, broccoli, cauliflower, onions, pumpkins, potatoes, shallots, garlic, beets, peas, green beans, okra, tomatoes, peppers, sunflowers, squash and basil.

Hours: 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Thursdays-Saturdays, July-November.

Special note: Certified organic vegetable and berry farm. Hopewell produce can be found at the Bellingham Farmers Market and at farm stand.

Koskela Blueberry Farm

Lubbe Farm

Open: Berries will be ready early June and last about three weeks

North Field Blueberry Farm

Red Barn Lavender

Address: 3106 Thornton Road, Ferndale; exit 262 off I-5, go west through Ferndale, continue on Mountain View Road until Barr Road, turn right, go 1 mile to Thornton Road, turn left on Thornton and right into second driveway

Shumway’s Strawberries

Together Gardens

Williams Farms

Address: 4405 Deming Road; 12 miles east of Bellingham on Mount Baker Highway, turn right on Hillard Road across from Mount Baker Vineyards, left on Deming Road

Boxx Berry Farm Berry Festivals

6211 Northwest Road, Ferndale, 2 miles north of the Smith Road soccer fields

The Strawberry Festival is June 18-20, with free strawberry sundaes, farm wagon tour rides, kiddies’ train rides, face painting and special entertainment.

The Raspberry Festival will be on a Saturday in the middle of July, with free raspberry sundaes, farm wagon tour rides, kiddies’ train rides, face painting and a kids’ animal balloon maker.

The Blueberry Pancake Feed is held in early August, with free blueberry pancakes with homemade Boxx Berry Farm syrups.

Glen Echo Community Club’s Annual Strawberry Social

Glen Echo Community Building, 7694 Goodwin Road at South Pass Road

Enjoy local strawberries served on homemade shortcake with ice cream, whipped cream and a beverage from 6-8 p.m. Saturday, June 26. Music by Valley Voices and the Bellingham Blend Barbershoppers.

Suggested donation of $6, $3 ages 6 and younger or 60 and older; all proceeds go to building improvements.

Lynden Raspberry Festival

Downtown Lynden

Kids’ day on Friday, July 16; festival continues Saturday, July 17 with raspberries and ice cream sundaes, live jazz, Classic 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament, wine-tasting at Samson Estates Winery, street fair, car show, fun run/walk, all-you-can-eat raspberry pancake breakfast.
